This Manufacturer Saw the Need for Disinfection Technology and Got to Work with Help from WVEDA

Safe UV, based in Morgantown, is creating jobs and healthier spaces in its community. Made up of West Virginia University alumni, the company manufactures germicidal ultraviolet lamps—a new product in a relatively new industry. Safe UV’s founders saw the need for this technology in recent years and got to work bringing their product to market.

Safe UV is not only an innovative technology company but also a manufacturing company that builds and creates new products. It’s at the crossroads of innovation and workmanship that West Virginia’s industriousness and ingenuity are uniquely suited to.

“We started Safe UV in West Virginia, one, because all of the founding team are WVU graduates, and there’s a lot of talented folks in West Virginia looking for good manufacturing and technology jobs in the area,” Safe UV President Issac Haky said. “The best part about being a small business owner is being able to create jobs in a community you care about.”

Any entrepreneur knows that founding a startup is not for the faint of heart, and it’s not easy to secure funding for the physical capital necessary for UV lamp manufacturing. However, once Safe UV got connected with the West Virginia Department of Economic Development, they were introduced to a whole host of resources exclusively available to and tailored specifically for job creators in the state. One of those resources was the West Virginia Economic Development Authority (WVEDA).

“It started with the WVEDA visiting us and our business seeing what our needs were,” Haky said. “They helped us from the beginning of signing up for the funding as well as deploying it, just making that whole process really easy.”

With the invaluable support of the West Virginia Economic Development Authority, Safe UV is poised to expand its operations, generating an increasing number of manufacturing and technology jobs within the community. By leveraging these resources, Safe UV not only enhances economic prosperity but also contributes to the promotion of healthier environments through its innovative UV lamp technology.
