How the WVEDA Helped CMC Metals Bring a State-of-the-Art Micro Mill to West Virginia

When Commercial Metals Company (CMC) decided to build a state-of-the-art micro mill in Berkeley County, they turned to the West Virginia Economic Development Authority for support. Through the WVEDA, CMC explored financing tools, including loans and industrial development bonds, that made it possible to move forward with the construction of their innovative new facility.

The project represents a $450 million investment and is expected to bring around 230 new full-time jobs to the region. Once complete, the mill will produce up to 500,000 tons of rebar annually, using 100% recycled steel and electric-powered operation.

By choosing West Virginia, CMC showed confidence in the state’s skilled workforce, strong business climate, and strategic location to serve Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, and Midwest markets.

With operations set to begin in late 2025, this project highlights how the WVEDA helps companies expand while creating new opportunities for West Virginians.

The West Virginia Economic Development Authority is proud to partner with CMC on this milestone project and remains committed to helping businesses grow and succeed in the Mountain State.
